What I Learned In 2012
Hope is a powerful thing, always believe that your life can be improved. Whether it's your mental or physical health, happiness, or dealing with a tragedy, we must learn to take it in stride. Know yourself and process your emotions. Reach forward either by focusing on the future and what you're going to change or do, or reach out to others. No matter what is happening there is always someone going through something worse. There is always someone with less blessings, less family, less money, etc. All we have to do is remember the victims or Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy to understand this.
We need to strive for peace, always. Whether it's local or abroad. A small or a large scale. Little things can make a big difference. No matter how chaotic things get in our lives, don't forget the big picture. It's worth working towards!
And lastly, I have learned to recognize those that are true friends. This past year, more than ever, I have appreciated those who stand with me and beside me. Those who have made me laugh in spite of tears, pray through the tears, and be to thankful through the tears. Those who have put me first when I needed it. Those who have read my blog hahaha even when there is nothing worth reading! Those who have tested my new recipes a.k.a. experiments. :) Those who I have spent so much time with and made so many memories with that I hope I never forget. Shows, concerts, dinners, movies, or just sitting and talking.
I hope that everyone has at least one friend in their lives that they can list these things about, that they can count on. I know I have more than one and for that I am eternally grateful.
I am looking forward to an awesome 2013 and I truly wish you all the best that life has to offer!!
As always, thanks for reading and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I Still Believe in New Discoveries
My friends and family know how important Diabetes research and funding are to me. I am hopeful that together we can make a difference and discover a cure in my lifetime! I care, not just because this disease runs in my family, but because Diabetes is more deadly than Breast Cancer and AIDS combined. This is a scary disease but knowledge is power. If we can get information into as many hands as possible maybe it will become less scary. Knowledge about advancements in research and how to manage it and live a long, successful life. I want every American to have that chance.
Every 17 seconds someone like me and you is diagnosed with Diabetes. Please help me by donating today.
Whether it's $5 or $100, you can get involved!
Please follow the link below to read my story and make a donation to the American Diabetes Association:

On My Nightstand Right Now
This is a great book, I haven't had a lot of time to read lately so it's taking me a couple weeks to get through it but this book is perfect for that. Instead of chapters, they're little stories about various U.S. Presidents all through history. Some things you might know or have heard but there is a lot that will probably be a surprise. If you love history as much as I do then I would highly recommend this.

New Year's Resolutions
Nothing carbonated.
No fast food.
So, as I sit here on February 13th. The day before Valentine's Day. Debating whether or not to get back on Facebook and read a few more of the Anti-Love posts from depressed people and drinking my carbonated "Go Ape" energy drink. I am pleased with myself.
Although obviously I have not kept 100% to my goals I have, for the most part been keeping my resolution. Except for an occasional cup of chili from Wendy's and Polar Pop from Circle K or Red Bull, I've kept away. Granted, there will always be cravings, slip ups, and downright rebellions, all-in-all I think it's going to be a great year. By summer I plan to be off the sauce completely.
We'll see.

Home Based Learning
Please understand that I am not saying that homeschooling is the right choice or that it's the only choice, I would never say there is a right or a wrong choice in how or where all children are taught, it is different for every family and every child.

2012 - Year of the Dragon
Usually I check up on the new year Chinese horoscope. It started a couple years ago at work as a joke that we would all see what each year had "in store" for us and then it stuck! Well, this year I should have skipped the quirky tradition.
There are four areas that you can read a prediction on:
Career
Love
Money
Health
The first three were so-so, no big promises or gleams of optimism. Rather bleak in fact. Mostly they just said to play it safe, not take chances, and "follow the guidance of the Dragon" blah, blah, blah...
Then I got to the last category.
"Health: There is an Unlucky Star showing in health area. That's a sign of injury. Therefore, Horse people need to pay attention the safety at work, to drive carefully on the road and to avoid conflict with strangers. Also, if Horse people have physical fights with others or do dangerous sports (like mountain climbing, car racing, diving, ski or even riskier activities), it might cause a bloody injury. Some fortunetellers suggest that doing a blood donation or teeth cleaning will help people escape accidents or injuries. Also, Horse people shouldn't ignore their health in 2012. Otherwise, a hospital door is opening for you."
So..I guess I'll be staying home in 2012.

Dear McDonalds
Previously I contacted you to ask when the McRib would be returning and was elated a few weeks later when it did in fact make a national reappearance. Your sandwich is under constant fire from my fellow coworkers who vary from saying that it is kangaroo meat to the actual truth, pig intestines (let's face it, there's no pretending it's quality meat, but it IS pure deliciousness), critics even going so far as to rename it the "the McDeath" sandwich. In spite of the controversy I have been able to gather a few followers of the McRib. I know that writing to you regarding this may seem pointless but I do believe in positive feedback when a company offers a great product, especially one that inspires such a "cult-like" following. I am not one of those mega-fans who waste time signing petitions and searching for blogs requesting to add the McRib to the full-time menu, I believe that part of the McRib's charm is it's elusiveness and would hate to see that ruined.
I admit I was a skeptic at first and it truly won me over. Thanks for offering such a fun product and keep up the great advertising!
Thank you for your time.

TP the Seat!!
Some call it, "paranoid".
Some call it, "unnecessary" and "silly", but for me, it is not even a question.
Some people only toilet paper the seat when at a rest stop or a port-a-potty so they don't understand why I do it all the time, even at work or in a restaurant, "Don't you know they clean it??" Um, yes. I do, (although the standard of "clean" is sometimes questionable depending on where you are...), I just have a problem putting my butt where someone else just had theirs.
I guess I'm just weird like that.

One American's Love of Movies...
Movies are a major part of our culture and quite frankly, I love them. There is a movie for every mood, every sport, every occasion, and every life milestone. There are movies to inspire, movies to bring awareness to a cause or a life well lived, movies to make you feel good and laugh, movies to make you cry, movies that you can relate to, even movies with seemingly have no point whatsoever. (Uh...Napoleon Dynamite anyone?)
What about those great moments in not-so-great movies? What about those amazing movies that make you feel like you have to run out and buy it that instant? The movies that you think you can watch every day until you die, at least until about the tenth time you've seen it? What about when you're watching a movie, thinking how terrible it is, and right when you're about to turn it off one scene comes along and glues you to your seat?
From "Father of the Bride" that makes you want to plan a wedding and wonder what your own Dad would be thinking, to "Mission Impossible" that makes you wish you were a secret agent with an unlimited supply of super spy gadgets, to "Elf" which makes you almost believe in Santa, to "White Christmas" that makes makes you want to curl up with a cup of hot chocolate and actually ENJOY the snow, to "Ocean's Eleven" that makes you want to be a part of a family-like, jokester-full Vegas crime ring, to "A League of Their Own" that teaches you how baseball almost died and how it was women who saved the game, "The Greatest Game Ever Played" that teaches you how one young man changed the game of Golf forever, to "Kicking and Screaming" which makes you laugh through the whole thing at fun absurdities while at the same time making you relate to a grown man trying to beat his Dad at just ONE thing for once in his life, to "The Sandlot", "Peter Pan", "Big", "Little Giants", and "Angels in the Outfield" that remind of you being a kid to "Annie", "Music Man", and "The Sound of Music" that make you fall in love with music! "Ice Castles" and "Dawn Anna" that makes you realize that in an instant your whole world can change and it's all about how we move past it. "When A Stranger Calls" and "Disturbia" that make you never want to answer the phone or talk to your neighbors again. Classics and feel good movies like, "Little Women", "Gone with the Wind", "Steel Magnolias", "Facing the Giants", "Fox and the Hound", "Ever After", "Love me Tender", "Top Gun", "Miracle", "The Godfather", and "Jane Eyre" . From every Doris Day movie that makes you wish you lived during that time to westerns with the Lone Ranger and John Wayne! Movies that put you in a time and place you'll never forget like "World Trade Center", "Remember Me", and "Pearl Harbor". Movies that give you a glimpse of what its like to be in battle like, "Behind Enemy Lines" and "The Patriot". Movies that take you into the realm of "What-Ifs" like, "The Transformers", "The Day After Tomorrow", "The Village", and "Premonition". Movies that make you fall in love: "The Wedding Planner", "How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days", "The Notebook", "The Lakehouse", "Pretty Woman", "Just Like Heaven", "Runaway Bride", "Pride and Prejudice" and "You've Got Mail".
STILL, I can think of MANY more!!!!
"Fireproof", "Hometown Legend", "The Zodiac", "Thor", pretty much all the Marvel Comic movies...
OK, I'll stop! haha I realize that not everyone is as big of a movie lover as I am but truly, there are few things better than a rainy afternoon with a good cup of coffee or some popcorn and a great movie!
The quote I chose for my "movie challenge" answer was,
"There's a very good chance I may never come here again!!!"
"That's a chance we'll have to take."
Of course, this is from "Kicking and Screaming" and it comes from the most hysterical scene in the entire movie. If you've seen it, you will agree! (at least, you should) haha
I think as far as all time favorite quotes go though...substantial, emotional, make you smile, make you remember, make you want to watch it today... it would have to be this one:
"I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle above your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend the day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."
Do you recognize what movie this is from?
I say ALL of this to say - this is the first chilly, potentially gloomy fall weekend of 2011 - it's a perfect time to spend an evening watching a movie you love! Or even to see one you never have. Happy Movie watching people!

The Things We Do for Love :)
That being said...you gotta do it. You have to humor the one you love b/c you care about them, and you respect them even if you think that stamp collection or pile of scrapbooks is boring.
But that's not really what I'm writing about. Today I'm writing about those rare occasions when you discover you have an interest in something new. Something they love!
Girls, I'm talking about Sports. Now some of you I know can talk all the sports lingo and understand the excitement, frustration, and occasional tears associated with every sports season. Good for you.
For me on the other hand, it's different. I enjoy two sports, tennis and baseball. I grew up playing softball, I love it. I love the Indians and going to games. I love tennis too. I think it's exciting and intense. When Brandon and I started dating it was the beginning of baseball season. He went to an Indians game with me even tho I know it bored him. All summer he played tennis twice a week with me. Then came football season..and it was my turn. Now, Brandon and I are different kinds of fans. He knows the names of the players, the past players, terminology, strategies, names of the plays, rules, etc. I'm not really that serious.
Thankfully he is not an obsessive fan. Thankfully there have only been a few times when he starts talking about team facts, favorite players, and what his team needs to do to win..and those times are when I find myself wondering what I should say..."Oh, really?" , "I hope they do win", "I like their jerseys", "Wait, which one's that?"
But that was in the beginning. Now it's Super Bowl Sunday. The BIG game day. The one every other game leads up to. And his team is in it. They made it. As the VP at work says, they got invited to the dance. And I can honestly say I'm excited and happy for them! What began as an absolute zero interest in football has grown to somewhat of an interest. haha For the first time I am blogging on Superbowl Sunday (Hey, baby steps...usually I'm at a party where I socialize for the first 3 and 1/2 quarters) while the game is on and I actually care - and it's not b/c they're currently winning ( =D ) or b/c they have Aaron Rogers...but b/c when you put a little effort and a little interest into something that your significant other is interested in., you might actually find out that you like it too!
Aaaand also, it's not brain surgery that when the person you're with is happy, you're happy!

Blogspot Asks...
"When you hesitate before hitting snooze on your alarm clock, are you being lazy?"
My answer is...
For hesitating? No, for hitting it? Maybe. But the real question is, how alert are you? Because usually you're in that groggy, kind of hazy state of mind when your alarm goes off because you're not fully awake, and since you can't possibly make a clear decision in that state, how can you be being lazy?
My fav random question. :)

Pet Peeves of 2010
I'll just be honest, I am not very patient. When I'm trapped behind someone barely going the speed limit, I find it very hard to remain calm and sweet. This is not something I'm proud of. Drivers on a Sunday afternoon drive during rush hour should n0t get to have a license.
2.) Self Check-outs.
I used to love these things! In 2010, every time I used one it was a bad experience. Waiting for a cashier's approval, technical error, and even the receipt paper needing to be replaced - all time consuming and irritating. (see above on the patience thing...)
3.) "Transferring to a Representative".
Most people love "getting to a person" in automated systems - they hate hitting buttons, waiting, and the computer voice - haha - I love it. I have found that I can get what I need done much faster and easier by just whizzing thru a touch tone system - I'm in, then out- no needing to explain my problem, give my CC and SSN info, answer a security question, trying to communicate my issue w/someone whose primary language is not English, or waiting on hold.
4.) Sleep.
90% of the days in 2010 I wished I had more sleep. LOL No matter how much I slept, It was never enough! This is why I plan to spend 2011 on less sleep - I know I can do it, I just need to train myself and man-up haha. I'll let you know how this goes.
5.) The Health Care Reform Bill - I find the entire thing disappointing.
No one knows what all is in this Bill. There are a lot of improvements and things to change in Health Care for this country, but this is not the road to take! We will see more in 2011 than we did in 2010. For those who have a flexible spending acct thru your employer, you already know!
First passing the bill:

One thing I do love is Rep. Mitch McConnell's response.

Some Things I Learned in 2010:
1.) Some people just can't be trusted and some people will never change. In the words of Shakespeare: "False face must hide what the false heart doth know".
2.) I feel lost without my phone.
3.) I love Chilli Dogs!
4.) Don't ever say you would never do something...sometimes things are out of your control. You never know what situation you may find yourself in, and you don't always have the option that you want!! You may not be happy about it, but you have to make the best of it until you can change it!
5.) If you say "beer can" with a British accent, it sounds like "bacon" with a Jamaican accent.
6.) Opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss!
7.) It's OK if someone doesn't like me. There's plenty of people that I don't like. This doesn't mean I can be rude or unkind.
8.) By the time I'm eligible for Medicare, it will be non-existent.
9.) Unfortunately, most voting Americans are ignorant of anyone other than themselves.
10.) I consume more caffeine than the average human. (although, I believe the national average is rising haha as all 'Kicking and Screaming' fans know, "It's the life-blood that fuels the dreams of champions!")
11.) Some things may seem really easy...until you try to do them.
12.) Always be pleasant on the phone, even if you don't feel like it - you never know what kind of day the person on the other line is having plus, it makes it harder for them to be mad at you. (note: "pleasant" is not "annoyingly perky" haha this esp works when people are calling regarding the bill you sent them)
13.) My car can go a long way on low fuel if I'm broke. (which happens fairly often)
14.) Yelling, "Take a lap!" makes me laugh, every time.
15.) I can go outside without all my makeup, and nothing bad will happen. (As long as it's a quick trip to somewhere close - this a big step for me people)
16.) I don't always deal well with change.
17.) Soda is poison. Delicious poison.
18.) These days, people rarely get the chance to explain themselves or clarify something simply due to most people choosing to believe their own assumptions, this is sad to me because I am a big believer in people defending themselves - in the right way and with the right attitude.
19.) If you really care about something or want to do something, you'll make time for it.
20.) Worry about you and God. If other people want to assume, condemn, or talk about you, that's between them and God.
Of course there are others and many more I'm sure I'll learn in 2011! Here's to another great year!

Stage 10 of Christmas - The Days After.
"Now what?"
This is always my feeling the day after Christmas! lol
All the hype, all the spending, all the suspense...over.
I LOVE the stations that continued playing Christmas music the day after, it was so much fun driving home.
The Christmas exchanges with family and friends throughout this week make Christmas continue on, even if I have to work every day! They are wonderful and exciting in their own sense because they have a feeling of being "bonuses" of Christmas.
I get this dramatic love of Christmas from my mother. She is a Christmas fanatic. The fact that I am actually depressed after Christmas Day is truly her fault. For those who know me and read this blog, you know this is a rare moment of sentimentalism. I know that decorations in Bula will be up until the weekend after the New Year and presents will stay under the tree for at least the day after New Year's. Christmas music will still play and the eating of left overs and cookies will continue on for 3 weeks. Not knowing any other way, I admit that I am biased towards these traditions.
I know people who take everything down and put everything away as soon as the actual Christmas Day is over. I cannot fathom this lol where's the fun in that?
Christmas is one time a year. One time a year to see everyone you love, to eat whatever you want and way more than you should, to spoil children who may not even deserve coal, to hear the Christmas story, to actually not mind longer travel times and snow coming down in buckets to cover everything. One time a year to get the things you WANT instead of buying yourself the things you NEED, to see people's faces light up as they open their gifts, to bust out all your holiday scented candles and baking skills.
(or lack there of if you're me) :p
I know that there are still down times, the remembering of loved ones who are no longer there, the missing those who can't come home, the piles of neglected work you will have to go back to, the spending of your savings, the messy house, the long lines in stores, and the days that it will take to get everything put away...
But it's so worth it! And to be over in a day, or two days, is just unimaginable for me. I want to make Christmas last as long as I can. A two week extension taking you right into that next year! Who wants to rush?
So here's to a Merry Christmas Week! Life is so short and this truly is the best time of the year!

Stage 7 of Christmas - The "Last Day of Work Feeling!"
There's something about the anticipation of this day that makes it go sooo slow when it finally arrives! ;)
I am very jealous of those who have Monday off and even more jealous of those whose break started today!!!
None the less, I cannot wait to begin my holiday weekend!
Here's to a fantastic "Friday"!!!
